EMG Club!

My guitarist helped me installed two sets of new EMGs into my new Schecters last week. I've lusted after EMG Pickups for years, now my lust has been sated!

I call them Punisher and Dracula :D

Tons of Versatility and Positively Earth Shattering Tone! :bassist:

(P.S. - I also have an old Kramer Zx70 that has a passive P model Select pickup designed by EMG '80 original), its the one that started said lust many moons ago.) ;)

These are my EMG equipped basses. Used EMG's since the mid-80's almost exclusively, then I got away from using EMG's for a little while and more into passive. My P Lyte, however, wasn't quite cutting it with the Duncan QP's I used to have on it, so now it has PJ's on it with the BQC. No room in the cavity for 18v, but even at 9v the BQC rocks hard. I really like having an onboard pre in case I go out in the crowd and don't like what I hear, plus I'm into changing tones to suit the songs, and it really helps to have the sweepable mid control onboard.

The other two basses are Guitar Factory basses I had custom made in the 90's, and they have PJ's/BTS. I don't use them much live anymore because Fenders and oddball 50's-60's style basses work better in my band, but they have killer tone.

So I'm kind of an idiot. Well, not kind of. I am an idiot. How do you change pups? I have a Spector Euro5LX-TW and I'd like to try the 40DC's. From EMG's site they look "plug and play". Is that how they are? No soldering or anything like that? I tried searching but didn't come up with anything.

Thanks
Rick

As long as your pickups and the ones you are considering are both quick connect versions then, yes. Easy as can be. Just take note of the plugs orientation on the back of the pickup before unplugging. Otherwise, simply loosen or remove the strings, remove the 4 screws, lift the pickup, unplug, plug in the new pickup, screw it in, restring and go play. While I was once very averse to a non-soldered system I now love their simplicity.

Thanks nervous. I think even I can handle that. I have a feeling I'll wind up burning the house down though. :D

Jimmy, Yes to some extent....

"Systems" were intended for "Active" EMG's, therefore the resistance is different on the pots (50k and 50k pots with circuits on them), On the other hand, there is a "BQS-HZ", "BQC-HZ" and "BTS-HZ"...or also the "Bts control", "bqc control" or "bqs control"

BTS-HZ

BQS-HZ and BQC-HZ

Or, just use "BTS", "BQC" or "BQS"... "Control", instead of "System"..

"BQC", "CONTROL", example

There is definitely a difference between "System" and "Control"......

Think of it this way, If you have "Active" pickups, get the "System", if passive, get "Control", or "BQC,BTS or BQS "HZ".........

EMG pres will work with any EMG pickups.

They have separate pres for each type of pickup? I thought it was all the same but apparently not. OK, standing corrected!

No, the preamps are the same. But the "System" preamps come with 25k controls for active pickups, while the "Control" preamps don't come with blend or volume pots.

I used to use a BTC System preamp with active EMGs and then later changed the blend and volume pots and used it with passive pickups.

I would totally put the BQS in there. I'm eventually going to change all my EMG basses over to the BQC since mine are 4 knob basses. Man, that mid control rules. I love being able to change the mid sweep onboard during a gig. Used EMG's for years, but the mid control is a totally new experience for me, and it's hot. It can be a tight fit in small cavities, though. Fitting in the BQC was a bit of a jigsaw puzzle in my P Lyte, and I can only fit one battery in there.
