EMG GZR PJ too hot?

I have a HX stomp and EMG GZR PJ set, and the pickups seem too hot for the unit, even with input set to Line.

I am just being an idiot or do I need an attenuator first in my signal chain?

The volume knob works both ways . It is a built in attenuator . I have never found a problem with my GZRs in my fretless .

Turn your volume down or lower the height of the pickups. They're reasonably hot but not so crazy that they should be blowing the input out, especially with a pad engaged already.

I had them in several passive basses with which I used the Line 6 Helix. I also used the Helix with Active Spector Euros which are WAY hotter than the EMG GZR's without any issues. Something is off.

This has solved the same problem on MANY of my basses in the past. Make sure you don't have the input gain on anything too high, then start adjusting the pickups accordingly. The EMG stuff is pretty solid, so the tone should be great even when the pickups are lowered.

This is what it sounds like to me, the pickup height. I have GZR's in a P and a PJ and haven't had this issue. However, I've experimented with the height of the pickups when I installed them and they can and will get VERY loud if they are too high. As are most pickups. But the GZR's can get quite hot if not adjusted where you want/need to be.

I would try to lower the output volume/last “block” in your Helix (the circle with the arrow in it).

I really don’t hear them as hot. Maybe slightly more than a typical vintage style Fender but I think that’s just that little mid boost they have causing it and not actual heat.
