Sorry to ask such an amateur question. But here it goes. Are my EMG Hz pickups and preamp best compatible with a solid state or tube bass amp ?
Are person told me my EMG Hz pickups wouldn't work correctly using a tube powered bass amp. Thanks for clearing that up for me KbD.
Yeah, any kind of pickups work with any kind of amp. I've never heard anything so silly as whatever this person is telling you.
Perhaps this guy meant to say that he didn't care for the way those pickups sounded with his tube amp?
No, he was serious about the EMG Hz not being compatible with tube amps. I basically assumed he was mistaken, but not positive about it. That's why I referred the question to you guys here. Thanks for the solid info guys.
If you choose to keep speaking to this person, next time just nod your head & smile, as if he's actually teaching you something, but then completely ignore whatever they just said
He is expressing a personal opinion, based on a lack of knowledge. We're human. It's what we do. Glad you came here to ask. You might say amateurish, I say smart.
Ask him WHY he thinks that you can't use EMGs with a tube amp, and see what sort of wild nonsense he makes up.
Only active EMG pickups are fully compatible with all kinds of amps. The HZ is passive and lacks juice that tubes like. However, the HZ is fully compatible with single-rectifier tube amps because they don't need lots of juice.
I find that the realm of music seems to have more than it's fair share of technical ignorance. Very good musicians who are just totally clueless about the technical side of things and clueless that they are clueless. They'll tell you all sorts of rubbish stories, believing them to be true. It can be very entertaining...
Is this, are you serious? 1960's amp technology that wouldn't work properly with any 1960's basses? You can lower the strings closer to the pickups to increase output. My passive basses are only 1 or 2 dB quieter than my active basses.
Actually it's fine to keep talking to them. But like KbD said... make sure you stop listening to them!!!
That's just flat out wrong on so many levels… Are you confusing line level inputs found on power amplifiers with the high impedance inputs found on instrument amplifiers? (Neither of which are affected by whether the amp is solid-state or tube btw.) Please tell us you were joking when you posted that. People are getting eyestrain from all the eye rolling they're doing after reading that one.
