EMG installation question

In the midst of experimenting with different p'ups in my J bass...

Question - can the EMG active p'ups be used without their pre-wired control set?

(I currently have a Raven Labs preamp and will probably upgrade it to a J Retro at some point).

Or...should I just buy the passive EMG's?

Yes, if you have 25k volume pots and/or a 50k blend pot.

They will work with J Retros, I'd assume. If they don't, I'd sure like to know.

They will work with their Pre's.

You can wire them straight out, no tone, no volume.

They work with the Aguilar Pre in the Spectors (though using 2 volumes).

I just thought I'd throw down everything I know on this topic.

emg typically supply a 25k tone pot with their pickup sets
