I've just baught a EMG JX pickup set, but my signal is extremely low. i have a 550W amp, and i have to set gain and master to full to hear anything. suggestions?
Have you rechecked your work? Are there solder points or is it the quick connects? Passive, active? Did you yourself install them? New battery (if they are active)? Where are your pups sitting in relation to the strings? Are the tone and volume pots wired correctly? Are the correct wires, if any need to be, connected to the bottom of the pots?
I had this problem with a new Squier VM jazz bass a while back... I took it to GC and they took that one and let me take a new one off the wall... thats not much help, but I think it was a problem with the wiring of the pickups
I've done it over again three times, it's active, quick conectors, i've tried a new battery, i've also changed the pickup height. Nothing happens when i am turning the controllers/pots either.
sounds like my recent experience - in my case it turns out the "connector board" (part number EMG 157c) was bad - had a short in it somewhere!!!
i did not have a meter handy to test, so I spent quite some time being befuddled by the symptoms...
THE FIX: try plugging one of the pups directly from pickup to pot to output jack - this made my EMG set spring to life! As my application just had two Js, two vols, and one output, i was able to dispense with the connector board altogether
** PS - you should use the extra loose "red" header block to gang the battery wires...
