EMG P/J vs Aguilar P/J

Hey hey!

I recently purchased a Spector Euro LT that is set up with the Aguilar P/J thru the Darkglass pre. Call me crazy but they sound almost too perfect.

I have a Euro LX that has the EMG P/J thru the Tonepump and it has a little more growl to it, which I think I like better.

What is the actual difference between them? I haven’t been able to match it to my LX. Should just swap for the EMG?

Don't be surprised that you cant match them. The Aguilars pay homage to classic Fender basses. The EMGs have their original voicing.

that is super helpful! I haven’t had much experience with Aguilar pickups. They do kinda remind me of my hand wound 59s. I think I may need to swap for EMG

The EMGs will have a much broader range of sound. More highs, more lows,
The Aguilars will sound more focused. The idea with EMGs is that you can EQ them to focus the tone however you like, instead of being stuck with the voicing limits of the passive Aguilars. You can cut away whatever you don't want, sonically from the EMGs.

Sounds like a good idea! I'd normally expect EMGs to sound brighter and growler. The Aguilars might have some sizzle when you dig in but overall warmer and less mids. I'm a EMG fan myself, they have a consistent tone that's easy to dial into whatever a set calls for.

i think I’m officially an EMG guy myself. I wanted to give the Aguilar a whirl but the EMGs in my Euro LX make my LT sound wimpy lol
