EMG P pups, one stopped working

Hi all...I was messing around with my MIM Fender P, trying to get the EMG Ps closer to the strings. After inserting a rubber spacer under the very compressed foam and reassembling, the treble pickup stopped working. Bass one works fine. With only two wires, I assumed everything is in series, so how is this happening?

I checked the obvious stuff like no screws through wires, no broken visible wires, etc.

Which kind of EMG? Soldered or quick connectors? Something came disconnected, it sounds like.

Soldered (at least 20 years old). I would think if something came disconnected, neither pickup would work...

Well I'll admit I have had a coil just plain die on me with EMG's so it's certainly not out of the question. Could be that's what happened.

Hmm...probably not worth my time to troubleshoot. Guess I'll pick up a set of those '62 reissues everyone likes
