EMG Rev-S Factory Preamp

Hey Talkbass, my LTD Surveyor has one of these, it's a 3-band wired into EMGs with a coil tap for a TW pickup; I don't have much experience with preamps aside from MEC's and this one, if you have experience with a few preamps would you consider swapping it out for a different pre such as a Bart or Aggie, and would it be a worthwhile investment compared to other modifications or a professional setup?

I hate to bombard with questions, but I'm not sure how other preamps would work with the EMGs' weird jack system either, as well as the coil tap, if I didn't want to route would an affordable drop-in replacement be relatively easy to find?

Or alternatively, would just buying a higher end EMG pre such as a BQC be a much simpler and smarter idea? (if it's actually going to be a notable increase in tone, of course)
