EMGs on a Sadowsky?

I originally used EMG40J soapbars in my 5-24. However, we consistently had problems that EMG could not resolve for us. The 40J was very prone to pick up electronic interference from stage lighting and such and as a result were too noisy for a significant number of pro players. I did not like the P soapbar and the the DC soapbar was too hot. The soapbar PU was also the only pickup left that did not fit into my master plan of going passive on all of my pickups.

Kevin Beller of Seymour Duncan/Basslines did a great job in designing my passive soapbar. It is fuller and warmer than the EMG but still has a great top end. Every one I know who switched from the EMG to the Sadowsky soapbar has preferred the Sadowsky.

I didn't know Seymour Duncan made the Sadowsky soapbars. I know, to me at least, the Seymour duncans can be just as hot as the EMG soapbars. I played a bass with the Bass Lines in it and that bass had an amazing slap tone. It wasn't a Sadowsky but it was nice. I like the EMG pickups as well but hey, if there's something else that works then it's worth a try.

Can anyone speak to the value of keeping an older Sad 24 fret with EMG's original? Part of me would like to try the Sad soaps as I feel the EMG's are to my ears too "glassy" But I also learned the hard way that modifying an older bass can affect its value.

This is just my opinion as a latecomer to Sadowskys. A good friend of mine has an old, EMG equipped 24/5 and a spankin' new 24/5 with the new soapbars. He much prefers the new soapbars.

I've only played maybe a dozen Sadowskys, but what strikes me is that, to me at least, they've evolved really nicely and the newer ones feel better. So for me, an older "unmolested" Sadowsky wouldn't be interesting as a collector piece - I'd rather have a newer one.

I guess that's the long way of saying if it were my bass I'd swap the pickups and not worry about it. You can always put the EMGs back in.
