Rebuilding my 212 and 115 out of braced 1/2" and adding mid drivers, no tweets and was wondering who's using these in this configuration, mainly what the top end sounds like.

Link to the drivers in question.

Crossing at 700-800hz would take the mid bump off the bottom and take some stress away from the drivers but how would you describe the character of the 2k dip followed by the 3k spike? ex: old fashioned paper cone treble or excessive string twang? Is it really that big a deal or can be fixed with a little eq or a notch filter?

Could go with other mids but would like these to work mainly due to cost and ease of installation. For reference the 115 is an 8ohm 1505 model Black Widow and would get the 6 due to it's SPL. The 212 is an 8ohm cab using a pair of 4ohm deltalite neo's bought from Avatar and would get the 8 due to it's SPL. thanks.

I have 6" in my two 3 way cabs, an LDS and a modded Triad I. I like the 6" as opposed to a horn, as my basses (4 stringers) probably only reproduce up to 6kHz anyway. They sound great, BTW (esp. the LDS cab). I don't know what the internal cross is in either of the cabs, sorry! Don at LDS would be able to answer your questions.

Was thinking of buying this crossover: http://www.bltsound.com/index.php/products/pxb2800-2-way or making one using this calculator http://www.diyaudioandvideo.com/Calculator/XOver/ .

The eminence crossover is a 2nd order taking the top of the woofers down and a 3rd order taking the bottom of the mid down. I read a spiel somewhere on that sight that using a 2nd order can create a response bump at the crossover frequency. Does the top half being a 3rd order negate this? 800hz sounds pretty nasally to me and I don't want to deal with a bump there.

Edit: The mid should have a 3rd order to keep low freqs away from it but would putting a 3rd order LPF on the woofers smooth out the sound better or make it sound more like things are jumping from one speaker to the other?
