One of the 16-ohm speakers in my Fender-SWR 8-ohm Goliath III Jr. burst into flames for no apparent reason at a backyard BBQ/jam. I replaced both of the 10" drivers with Madison Knight 10" 8-ohm drivers, rated at 300 watts apiece. I'm very pleased with my (now) 4-ohm 2X10 Golly Jr. The only amp I've ever used with it is my Eden WT400. With the original speakers it sounded very good, with a touch of "hi-fi", even with the horn rolled all the way off. With the Madisons it sounds more like the Ampeg that I use at a studio, just smaller. I set the horn at about 9:00 (25%) to get more of a full-range sound. Of course, the amp is now putting out its' full 400 watts into the 4-ohm cab, so that could change things, too.
I was considering replacing the Madisons with either 16-ohm SWR drivers (once available from PartsGuru, not sure about this now), which would bring it back to original (combustible?) spec, or ordering the speakers from Avatar that he uses in his 2X10, which have the increased X-max. I'm not sure about availability on these anymore, either. But the Madisons sound so good, I just never got around to it.
