Empress Bass Compressor vs Empress MKII Compressor

Have owned a couple of their Bass compressors. I do like the hpf on the Bass compressor.

Love em.

Never use the tone/color 3-way switch. I leave it off.

In theory the tone knob on the MKII makes sense to me.

Wondering if the actual circuitry is the same between the 2 compressors? I know the one is a “Bass” compressor. And the other isn’t marketed as such.

Anyone owned both?

Just wondering how they compare.

Many thanks for any input.

Hi I can answer that definitively:
The compression circuitry is the same in both the Bass Compressor and the MKII.

The only differences are:
A Tilt EQ on the MKII (the 'tone' knob) vs. the Tone + Colour switch on the Bass Compressor.
and
The Sidechain Highpass Filter on the MKII is controller by a switch with options for off, 120Hz, or 240Hz while the Sidechain Highpass Filter on the Bass is controlled by a knob from 20Hz - 400Hz.

Either compressor is suitable to use with a bass or a guitar (or other instruments).

Hope that helps!

Sam,

Thanks so much. 👍👍🙂

For me, I think the HPF knob is just of more value to me then Tone knob on the MKII.

Appreciate the definitive info.

The Para EQ Deluxe and Bass Comp. are wonderful pieces.

Intrigued by the new Bass Para EQ. Not sure if there is enough enhancements to pull the trigger. Not a doubler. Curious as to the frequencies being more “tuned” towards the bass.

Anyway, thanks again for the reply and keep making a wonderful product.
