Double Bass End pin can't stay at height?

So this is a problem I've had for like, the entire few years I've had my double bass but I have kind of just lived with the fact that the endpin doesn't want to properly lock and stay at a certain height. Tonight I was recording an album with a group I'm in, and it was extremely distracting.

Is there a fix for this? Do I need to replace the endpin piece or?

Properly functioning endpin should stay at one height for a long time.
There could be a fix, but without a visit to a luthier, it can be impossible to say, if it's possible. Even from photos issue may not be possible to spot.
Replacing endpin is, in my opinion, an easy and quick fix. Just pay attention to old and new endpin diameters, so you wouldn't need to change hole in your bass.

If you always set the pin at one height, you could get a fixed length end pin similar to these

With this type of endpin design it is physically impossible for the endpin to slip inside the bass.

Is it possible that it is just that the locking screw is worn and won't stay tight? Do the threads seem wobbly when loosened slightly, is the contact point polished slick? Could be a cheap quick fix.

I have the same issue because I’m getting old & tired and I lean on my bass sometimes! My father-in-law who’s a retired carpenter spun these prototypes for me and they solve the problem beautifully.

These days I normally play standing with my end pin all the way in ... I must be shrinking. However, when the venue affords a tall plushy bar stool, I break out one of these extender supports and all is well in the world.
