Enigma Pedal- envelope filter question

I'm not sure what kind of sound the original post was looking for, but the bigger issue seemed to me to be the ability to get a good sound out of a filter without tons of effort. I would have to agree with "Smurfy" that the 3 Leaf is not really an extreme, "wet" sound. However, the version 2 modification to the unit does add some resonance. I would say that the GR has a "natural" sound that can easily be dialed-in and be heard in the mix. We must also consider that this unit also works on guitar, as does the WMD Fatman and the Qtron+.

I have played on the EBS Bass IQ and found it very wet, especially with the toggle switch at the top. It's not an inexpensive unit, and I'd typically want more control of the sound relative to the price tag. For me, super-wet is fun on guitar but gets lost in the mix on bass, which is why I'm a big fan of the 3Leaf Groove Regulator.

So, if the person originally posting wants wet and easier to use than an EHX product, the EBS Bass IQ is probably a good choice, in my opinion. However, I wouldn't keep both the EBS Bass IQ and the QTron+ if I wanted variety in my filter line-up.

FYI, for a big, rubber bandy sound, I use an old, two-knob DOD FX25.

From what I was told, he's been working on yet another version that has more of the vintage Mutron III type sound. He actually changed out some range caps to accomplish this. Even he seemed real excited about how it sounds now. I’ve been patiently waiting some sound samples from him.

BassIQ=YES

I have been jonesing for a Qtron+ for a while, but saw that the Enigma has come out recently (or I am just really out of the loop).

Basically, is the Enigma a Qtron with a Bassballs in the effects loop? I would be more interested in having a Qtron with an effects loop where I can place a bassballs or whatever other OD i wanted in, than have a dedicated pedal that makes a Claypoolesque sound just because it is popular at the time.

Thoughts? If you had $190, what would you do?

I would describe the Enigma as a fully adjustable Qtron. Can't say that I have found a BBall sound in there yet...but I haven't been looking for one either. Maybe someone else can chime in on that. I was able to find my Enigma for $130 new, shipped on ebay. I use my Enigma for "typical" filter sounds (so, I'm a boring guy)...which I think this pedal excels at. For me, it's been a long search for my ultimate filter (without breaking the $350+ price line) and the Enigma is it. As long as it doesn't die on me again.

Just saw this thread again and realized I hadn't updated my story. I actually got my Enigma back(they gave me a new one) and haven't had a problem since. Maybe Funkinthetrunk and I had isolated incidents involving an early Qballs Death.

Thanks Funkinthetrunk, the reason I said that is because it seems to me like there are overdrive/fuzz controls on the Enigma, adding a little grit to the funky drippy sound.

Well...the fuzz is really not that desireable sounding. It sounds ok....but since it's not a "full blown" fuzz unit with controls, it's very limited.

I believe that 3toe is right...Enigma does seem to have a wetter sound.
