Envelope filter as a practice tool

I am almost certain that someone has hit on this idea before me, but I thought I would post it anyway.

I have been working on refining my finger technique (trying to switch to floating thumb after over 20 years of bracing it on the pickups) and in the course of that, I accidentally found a good practice use for my envelope filter pedal. Besides the obvious "MAKE FUNKY NOISE!" usage, the envelope filter effect makes changes in my attack much more audible, complete with an ugly "QUACK!" when I hit too hard. The envelope filter serves as an audible cue during practice to help with my touch and make my attack more consistent.

Hope my little accidental discovery helps somebody else along with their technique.

i have one of my teacher who were always practicing with a VU Meter to always hits with the same strenght... the kind of guy that doesn't need a Compressor anymore...

Yes, but I've spent most of the last 20 years working in US Navy engine rooms. I'm far from deaf, but still, my ears aren't what they used to be. Hence why I was happy to find that I could get a little extra help from the filter pedal on refining my attack. Improvise, adapt and overcome, ya know?
