I got a pretty killer sound with a v1 3leaf Proton and an IE Oxide.

Love fuzz + envelope filter combo, though yes fuzz clipping will lower the dynamics the filter has to work with. Octave -> gated fuzz -> EF will get you close to synth territory, compressed, clipped, punchy.

In the past I've gone OC-2 -> OD -> Zvex Mastotron -> MXR BEF.

Recently upgraded to Emma Discumbobulator v2 and it's wonderful, especially being able to use the separate boost switch. (Downsweep is noisy, very noticeable at bedroom levels, negligible in a mix.)

Fwiw, fuzz after EF will definitely change the character of the stack.
