Envelope Filter with Good Sensitivity?

Having trouble finding an envelope as well. Gave up for a few years, tried MXR, Xotic, and another one or two I don’t recall. I could never get the right blend of thicc and smooth with the quack.

Anyhow I was playing my buddies MuTronIII via guitar and was absolutely blown away.
Does this translate well to bass?

I have downsized to a single P-Bass with flats.
Do I go with a MuTron, or how are the new 3Leaf pedals?
Damn things are so expensive.

I had an MXR and it would not quack Also the Q-Balls The Q-Tron+ The Xerograph and several others. The one that did work for me was the MR Black FwonkBeta It would Quack and much more . Now The most versatile is the Source Audio Spectrum. It re-wrote the book on Quack and so much more

Unfortunately, I had a recent Microtron IV from the new ownership company and the pedal did not work with my gear. It just didn't trigger. I tried internal trimpots and called/emailed them for help. Eventually, I returned it. Of course, YMMV, etc. The MuTron is the OGest of OG envelope filters. It's def pricey and might not be "worth" the extra $100 or so.

As far 3Leaf goes, their V3 (purple enclosure) Proton sounded great to my ears. Haven't tried the V4. There's a thread here that compares all the versions.

If you can find an Emma V2, it has my vote for best envelope filter in its price range. Haven't played the Fwonkbeta but everything I hear is excellent.

I had the exact experience. I just could not get a desirable sound out of it on bass (for my personal taste). I have guitar friends who swear by it.

I currently use an Iron Ether XD, but it's mainly for filter sweeps and in conjunction with other synth related tones and voicings. But I can still get great traditional filter tones with it but it just requires more tweaking.

I get good sounds out of the MXR bass envelope. I also have an EH Q Tron micro that was hit and miss until I opened it up and advanced the trim pot as far clockwise as it would go. It's better (i.e. more "quacky") but still has its temperamental moments. The MXR is pretty solid, though.

Since I started this whole thread about eight years ago, I figured I might as well follow up.

I used the MXR for a while, but just wasn’t getting the sound I wanted. I ended up going with a Maxon AF-9 and a JohnK Mutron clone. They sound slightly different from each other, but both are very responsive and give “that” classic sound.
