Enzo or C4?...

I got an Enzo a couple of weeks ago. I finally got a midi controller and expression pedal on Friday. Total game changer with those two added. It's a very fun and inspiring pedal once you know you can save your settings and not lose them if you look at the pedal the wrong way.

I loved the Enzo and even found it easy to understand and adjust on the fly (after the first week anyway), but the inability to control output volume just made it really difficult to use. There are ways around that issue, but I chose to move mine along and invest elsewhere.

If the volume issue is fixed, I would try it again. I have no real world experience with the C4, so I can’t comment.

I am curious about the volume change they made. It says on the announcement about the change that they just added a 6db sweep of volume adjustment of the full-wet signal onto the end of the Blend control. This means the only additional control added is when the signal is fully wet, and it’s not super clear whether the 6db sweep is on top of or below (or both?) the “stock” volume. In my opinion it is really a pedal that would highly benefit from a Master Volume or at least “Effect Volume” control. I may try out one of the newer ones at some point anyway. My bigger issue was with the preset overwrite issue, and that issue has definitely been resolved on the newer Meris pedals (I have a newer Mercury 7 that I love!)

Have you owned an earlier version of the Enzo to contrast to? The “issue” I think many of us had was that many settings could be much louder than unity gain and there was no way to control the volume boost inside the pedal outside of using a ton of clean blended in (which isn’t always something I wanted). The mod to the new Enzos according to the Meris website is only an additional bit of sweep at the very end of the Blend control (so only useful for additional control of fully wet settings).

I haven't owned an earlier version either, but I also haven't experienced any spikes or sudden volume changes when experimenting with the pedal. And since I usually do these kind of experimentations with in-ear monitors (so as to not to annoy my family with the sometimes weird sounds I produce) any volume changes would have been clearly noticeable...

So I actually just got an email from Meris that they could take my v1 back now for updates. I don’t have it anymore, but asked if he could explain the update better. Here’s what he wrote (which sounds ideal to me!). In other words, the effect volume is fully attenuated throughout the entire Blend sweep and you get some boost range at the end if you need it for full wet:
“The mod for Enzo changes the Mix taper and lowers the volume of the wet signal 6dB for the entire sweep. With the Mix knob at 3 o’ clock, Enzo will enter full wet at the lowest volume. From 3 o’ clock to max, the signal stays full wet, but increases in volume. This helps the synth signal stay much closer to unity throughout the Mix sweep and gives you more control over the full wet volume as well. ”

I have a modded box. There is some adjustment at the last 1/8th of the knob travel for adjusting the full wet volume. It really helps to balance sound levels as compared to before. I'm really happy with the updates, having the right button access alt parameters without saving is very welcome. It still needs something to switch memory locations via MIDI, so if you dont want to buy another $100 box from disaster area for direct control or don't have a switch and I/O, the other boxes may be better choices.

I'm not looking for another synth or filter pedal. I'm good now. Enzo sounds massive, doesn't need a screen to adjust and as others have said is very inspiring to play.
