Epi Thunderbird views?

alot of people seem to say no,but upon trying a real gibson T-bird,i noticed a huge difference in everything pretty much.it felt better than my epi in every way..thinner neck and body,faster fretboard,nicer finish,tone was miles better,and it was SO much lighter.sorry dude,i'm just trying to be honest.
but luckly you have another option,the epiphone thunderbird pro.everything on it is wayy closer to the real gibsons,it has a thinner,thru-neck.active pickups.etc...

I love mine.

That's a line that almost every Epi T-Bird player will tell You ;).

I even like the pickups, did add a Model One to the neck position though to gain some added versatility.

The Epi and Gibson are similar in appearance, but not in other areas. Some of the differences are subtle, some drastic.

Nothing warrants the huge price difference IMHO, the Epi is a better deal to me. And like I've said earlier, I could afford a "real deal" but couldn't justify the purchase, even to myself.

I wouldn't advice buying one without playing it first though, the QC has been reported to be somewhat irregular. That is said to hold true with the recent ones as well as the older ones. And sadly the new PRO-series has alledgedly had its teething problems as well.

I had one of the black ones for a short while. It looked great and was put together well, but the sound was pretty lacking to my ears. I sold it because it wasn't getting much playing time and the minivan needed new tires. :o

no need to apologize!

i just cant justify a 1000 quid for a proper gibby atm

and just want a bass that sounds decent, and has that styling i'd prob mod it a bit over time.
can you put a badass 2 bridge on a thunderbird?

ok si went for an epi pro

really nice bass! nice tone! perfect for what i want.

will post pic when my new camera comes, got a few mods in mind as the tuners aren't that great so might throw some new tuners on it, and while im doing that put a hipshot d-tuner on it.

already moved the strap pin and fitted some dunlop straplocks and the neck dive is gone! so playable now that i dnt have to hold up the neck!

Since you went with one it's a moot point now, but I have two Korean-made Epi T-birds and love them. Great quality, they sound good and for the price they couldn't be beat. I bought one off a kid on Craigslist for a whole $85, put flats on it and it sounds terrific.

the epi t-bird holds a special place in my heart. it's my first gigging bass and i love it. strap locks are a must because of the way the upper pin sits, but other than that, mine came great from the factory. it's an inexpensive bass, but i got some great playtime on it and the tone isn't bad. just set up your amps eq the way you want it and it'll sound fine. good pick, i don't think you'll regret it.

for what they are, Epi Tbirds are definitely decent playing basses (I coudn't stand the pickups though) UNTIL you pickup a Gibson. There really is no comparison.....apples to oranges. The resemble each other and that's where comparison stops. I can understand not being able to afford shelling out the extra $$ on the Gibson (I couldn't for years) version BUT if you can....do it. The Gibson has such a different feel, tone and playability (all in a good way) over the Epi.

The Epi Pros....that might be a different story!
