Epic Fancy-Schmancy Private Party Gig!

Hi,

I knew from the address that this was a nice area. We were next to the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point in a private gated community called Ritz Cove.

This is the front of the house. Yes, that's an Audi R8 and an Aston Martin in the driveway.

This was the view from the stage area on the back patio.

It was slightly overcast that afternoon/evening but the weather was great.

There was an indoor/outdoor pool but no one was swimming last night.

The bar was a happening place. I had Patron and Heineken all night. :p

Farther around the patio was food, a cigar bar, game room, etc.

We could see the waves crashing on the beach as we played.

The guitar player and I had a nice stogie from the cigar bar.

This was our lovely hostess having a good time. I heard that she threw this party just because she discovered she liked country music. Both she and her husband are really high-powered lawyers in the area.

The host and hostess were gracious and down to earth. The band got to eat, drink, and party like everyone else. It was fully catered from soup to nuts (steak, salmon, gourmet flat bread pizza, hors d'oeuvres from mini-cheeseburgers to bacon-wrapped shrimp, and tons of deserts, etc). They asked us to play overtime so we got extra $$$ on top of our already generous remuneration.

Here's one more shot of Kelly and I having way too much fun. It's a good thing her husband and I are good friends. ;)

I like the guy in the background playing "air bass". :bassist:

A good time was had by all. :smug:

Sweet gig! I think that might be an "Aston" Martin theyah with that Audi. Austin made the Healey, they partnered with Datsun in the 1930s, was associated with Morris Garage of MG fame, merged with BMC in the early 1950s and made the original Mini designed by Alec Issigonis around 1959. Aston Martin was not and is not associated with Austin and the two are often confused.

Hi,

Sweet gig! I think that might be an "Aston" Martin...

Oops, you are correct. Fixed my typo. Thanks!

Since I'm here, how about a couple more pictures?

This is a view from upstairs where the main course was served.

And this was the fire pit. They sparked it up later in the evening after it cooled off a bit.

And Kelly's husband, Jack, is running sound behind the scenes.

Hi,

"What kind of beer do you like?
Heineken.
Heineken? **** that ****! Pabst Blue Ribbon!"

Unfortunately, they were not serving Pabst.

The other choices were Bud Light, Corona, and something else I didn't care for. But I'm not complaining. The hospitality was excellent and never-ending.

This reminds me of an old joke.

Q. How do you get a musician to complain?

A. Get him a gig.

I was quoting a line from the movie "Blue Velvet". I've never tasted Heineken myself, so not a serious comment :p.

I guess it's only funny from a Belgian point of view. Over here, Heineken is generally looked down upon.

I've heard that it's hip to drink Heineken in Italy, though.
