Epifani Club! I've seen the "light"!

You can count me as a player helping Nick Epifani stay in business. I bought my UL-210 in July of '04 and my UL-410 in March of '06. I love their tone (and their ridiculous weight). They sound great with my little Eden head or my rack rig. There's probably something wrong with me, but I feel no lust for the series 2 cabs. And thanks to KJung and others for detailing what I would be gaining (or giving up) if I did purchase the series 2.

Sign me up. I had some shoulder problems and sold my 60 pound Schroeder 1212R cab. I bought 2 Ul-112 cabs from Jive sound and never looked back. I'm loving the weight and the sound of these cabs so much that I then bought a used Ul-210AP from Mobax (via our classified ads). Now I have a modular rig that works for anywhere I play. I power that with a WT-550 and it gives me tonal heaven.

Ive never, other than Roger Sadowsky, had an owner/operator spend so much time fiddling with cabs, tweeters, etc and stacking up different setups in the shop to test out. I stopped by to say Hi once and spent 3 hours!!! They love the shop talk!! Last visit was right about the time they were about to release the series 2 cabs. We a/b'd all different configurations. Me, jokerjny, Tiny Lindsay, Shawn, and Nick. Wow. What a great day. Id really like to get a series 2 3x10 or 4x10 sometime. They sound so "open" and alive. Amazing design

mmmmm.......thanks for posting that picture! that's what my new rig is gonna look like when I get the 210!

At practice last night I noticed the tweeter in my UL-410 Series 2 was farting out a bit when I played the "B" string on my Sadowsky. I had the tweeter set around 10:00. I backed it off to about 9:00 and it seemed to go away.

Could this be I had too much bass driving that tweeter? I use a Radial Tonebone Bassbone to switch between my 4 and 5 string. I do EQ the 5 string to sound close to the 4 string with boosted Bass and Mids. Could this be what is causing the tweeter to fart. It sounds like the paper is breaking up?

However, when I did back it off to the 9:00 position my 5 string sounded great! But, if I wanted to boost the tweeter in the cab It would just bring me back to square one.

Any of you 5 string players experience this? And, what do you do to correct it?

Never experienced that with the Epi circuit. My guess is, the tweeter is reproducing some distortion that is occuring somewhere else in you signal chain... i.e., the tonebone input being clipped by a lot of bass and output from the Sadowsky, or the input stage of your amp. With a tweeter crossed over as high as the Epi circuit, the B string would have very little impact on the tweeter, it would be almost impossible to 'distort' it... but it will reproduce other problems in your signal path. IME.

It sounds like an input gain problem to me, either on the tonebone or your preamp/amp.

I use the Tonebone into a Markbass LMII. I just picked up the tonebone and never heard this noise before I started to use it. So maybe if I back off the gain on the tonebone or from the LMII this could be corrected. I did make sure I was not clipping at all. But, maybe when I was digging in on the B it was clipping and I didn't notice until I heard the noise.:hmm:
