Epifunky Club.............Let's Get It Started!!!!

I use an Epifunky 115 under my SWR Redhead combo, and sometimes use it by itself with my old Traynor YBA-1 head. It's super light, and it has a clear, punchy sound. If I ever went to a head/cab/cab gig rig, I would definitely consider getting an Epifunky 410 or 210 to go on top.

I reviewed the Epifunky 2x10 and 4x10 in issue #3, and I'd love to put another plug in for these excellent cabs. The bang for the buck is really off the scale with these cabs, IME/IMHO. I was especially fond of pairing up either one (or both) with the Carvin BX500.

As much fun as I have had playing some of the top-tier (and top-priced) products in the business, I tend to get more excited about the gear that delivers performance rivaling the best in the business, but at a fraction of the price. True, you can definitely hear the difference between the Epifunky line and the UL line (or between the Epifunky line and any number of other high-end cabs), but I could easily see many folks preferring the Epifunky brand over some of the higher priced competition.

And don't get me started on how good that BX500 is! :smug:

welcome to what I've dubbed my "mini AJ rig" :D :

With that endorsement it's time to place an order...

Tom, have you checked out the Promethean?

If you have how would you compare the two?

I have only played the Promethean at NAMM so far, but Martin Roseman reviews the Promethean 1x10 combo in issue #4 (which should be FINALLY done with layout by the end of this week).

That being said, I do have a 2x10 combo en route to me. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :D

Got my 210.

It sounds very good.

Very natural sounding, very smooth.

Polished is a good word to describe the sound.

The bass doesn't bloom like some cabs, it stays controlled and accurate, not that bloom is a bad thing.

The transition between the tweeter and the woofer doesn't present much mid scoop.

The tweeter l-pad has 3 detented settings.

Now for the cons:
Two 1/4 inch connectors are extremely loose, they barely hold the plug in
No Neutrix connectors
One of the tens was completely loose; two of the 4 screws were stripped in the wood and could not be tightened, so it rattled as you could imagine
The screws are small and screwed straight into the wood; no tee nuts

I'm undecided if I want to keep it and replace all the screws with tee nuts or send back.
I'm thinking the 4 ohm version would be nice...

send it back!

As I have not really heard of anything like this to date...............The 1/4" connectors should not be that loose, are you using a high grade speaker cable? I have only used Monster cables with mine, and they hold quite well. As far as the speakers and the stripped screws, you may just have gotten a bad one? I got an Avatar cabinet like that once, as they also screw directly into the wood. Things like no Speak On connectors and T Nuts help keep the costs down, but I will admit they are nice features! The Epifunky line is their "budget" cabinet, as they have three higher grade lines above it (PS, UL, DIST), with all the features most people want. The Epifunky's are just the best sounding cabinet in their price range, possibly better than other brands high end stuff! ;)

Cables are not the problem.

I would have think there is was a QC issue?
After playing the first note, it was apparent there was a serious problem rendering the cabinet unuseable.

But through all that I could tell the cab sounds incredible.

Head and tails above everything else in the price range...

I sent Epifani an email last night.
Nick responded this morning.
He said he's shipping a new one (that's been tested) out to me tomorrow morning.

How's that for customer service?

Nick called me today.

He is issuing a call tag for the defective cab and shipping a new one.

He said my cab was one from the first run of their overseas supplier.

He said they stripped the tee nuts and did not bother to tell anyone.
So there may be other cabs with the same problem.

He said it a great cab and guarantees I’ll like it.

Despite the problems I can tell it’s an excelent cab and I’ll probably want the 15 also.

HI

Ive done a few shows with my 2x10. I like it alot. When I got it, I had to take off the grill because something was rattling around inside. Once apart, I realized the whole tweeter assembly had come undone and was just bouncing around inside the box. The cable was still connected. I screwed it back in and its been fine.

The one thing I really dont like about it since using it a few times are the handles. When you pick the cab up, the inside of the handle isnt smooth and cuts into ur hand. Crappy design. Hopefully they'll change them in future runs.

Tuki covers are very nicely made and well padded!

+1 on Tuki, I've bought four covers from them. One was made from scratch (from my measurements). Great quality and the turnaround time was superb.

Thanks, those are the companies I'm familiar with for custom work, and in a pinch, there are some OTR covers that could fit. I'm checking just in case someone was running a 115 combo and knew of a stock cover that fit very well (handles in the right spots, fit over the radiused grille, etc). Responses much appreciated guys.

JUST CAME IN!!

my EpiFUNKY 115 just showed up and I've just gotten home to plug it in... definitely the honeymoon stages but do I love this cab already!! almost so light I thought it didn't have a driver in it!! :D

waaaay smooth so far with my 6 into an EA iAmp300 micro.

have a gig tomorrow night so I will hopefully have a full report then.

cheers!
pd

I am interested in 115 too, how did your gig go?
