Epiphone EB-3 as a beginner bass for 300€?

The neck dive isn't a problem but i have heard that the Bass is a kind of a "one trick pony"? Would you rather go for say an Ibanez?

For that price it's a steal though. Usually around 400€ around here.

with the bridge PU it's more like a 3 trick pony, and if you're not comparing them to whatever else then they're ok. I'll snag one if I see it cheap locally and probably mod it. any Ibanez will likely be far different than this old standard.

I've been tempted but, haven't bitten yet. Would like to keep my real thing at home more. I'm hoping the epiphone can be modded into something really nice. Not about to pay the current price for the new real thing.
