Epiphone EB-3 - Short Scale Version? (Good for Dark Stars?)

Hi,

I'm semi-interested in getting a short scale, and putting Dark Stars on it. The EB-3 seems like a prime subject for adding Dark Stars, but they don't have a short scale version as far as I can see.

Also, has anyone put a Dark Star in a Guild B301?

Yes, at least one member has put a Dark Star on a Guild B-301. Take a look at message #177 in this thread:

He later added two more for a total of 3 Dark Stars on one bass.

I have the current EB-3. Nice bass, 34" scale, and a bit on the heavy side with a tendency to neck-dive. There is currently no short scale version of the EB-3 from Epi. If you want to go the short-scale route, you'd be best advised to get an EB-0 and add a pickup. There's room for another one on the bass. I've owned the Epi EB-0 too, and it's a nice bass.

You can DS an EB-3 if you want - but I'd recommend playing one first and making sure that you're comfortable with the body style, weight and balance.

I recall somebody saying that after putting 2 DarkStars in an EB-0 that one would have been enough. the guy said he only uses the neck pickup and gets all the tone he was looking for. maybe try that and see how it sounds. a second DS could always be added at a later date.

please post a few pics of your project, rfclef!

I think I'm going to go with the EB-0, but I am unsure of the quality. Are they good basses, or is there an EB-0 copy I can go with? Right now, Lakland's are out of the question money wise. Are there any other good basses for Dark Staring without much modification (I really want a short scale)
