(Sorry, that's the price for our unfortunate Canadian neighbors.)

I tried one of the new single pickup Epi Grabbers in a store a while back, and while the non-moveable pickup is a disappointment, the bass itself felt very good, very solid. I'd expect this one to be of similar quality. The price is still a little steep though. At least this G-3 version is pretty close to the original G-3 (likely as close to a vintage correct reissue a product of the current Gibson company is ever going to get, at least outside of custom shop instruments).

I've seen some of the Epiphone Grabbers used for $600-$700. Not sure how much the pickups, electronics, and woodworking would add to the cost if you went that route but I imagine it would just be easier to buy this if you're going for that type of bass. I do think the price is high for an Epiphone but the quality doesn't seem to be an issue with these.

I am so sick and tired of the bashing Fender or any other company over the prices of their instruments. It is literally so easy to just ignore them. In this case, if you had been paying attention, the Rex Brown Epi Thunderbird was right in this same price range, so there really should be no surprise.

I don't like prices going up any more than anyone else, but welcome to 2025 reality, if you don't know things are going up in price it is because you choose to not to pay attention.

I realized the other day that I have only a handful of basses that were built in the US. I have some Epi's that were built in China, some Laklands built in Indonesia, some Fenders built in Mexico and a whole bunch of Ibanez that were built in Japan. Basses from every one of those countries has increased dramatically in cost over the last few years, get over it. Fender is an easy target, but hardly the only one.

Or save yourself some money, I got the regular Epiphone Grabber for sale in the classified section for $800! It's been upgraded with an active EMG MMTW pickup which sounds a thousand times better then the stock pickup which is the weakest part of the stock bass.

Not sure if that was bashing or merely pointing out that some of the MIM prices are nearly double the price of the basic MIMs. Other than that, I am aware of the $1,000 plus Epiphone basses...that's why I choose not to buy one.
Regardless, I was very impressed with the Indonesian Fender P bass and find it a ridiculously low price, and I grabbed an Epiphone Jack Casady bass when they were on sale for $599...same thing.

I saw a cello at the violin shop in L.A. for $80,000.

Or, you could buy this one of a kind hand-built custom 6 string bass, the Dire Wolf, based on Garcia's Wolf Guitar, for $40,000. But wait, you could get a plain one without the inlays for $35,000. They are back-ordered.

yes, this! I've been trying to buy a "reasonably" priced Upright for the past month or so, and apparently unless you're willing to drop $2,500 - $3k you are basically going to buy garbage. Nice ones go from $3-5k up to insane .... like $30-40k.

Makes me feel pretty good about electric bass prices
