Epiphone or Ibanez?

Probably wrong place for this but here goes: So I'm loving my new Ibanez over the Epiphone, practicing for two days and then on the third day I go to pick it up and blammo its all buzzy. What the hell! Two days and the action already needs to be adjusted?!?! Is this right?

Its a new bass, everything on it is still settling in so don't be pissed or upset, it happens. I had to do some minute adjustments on my SR535 after a couple of weeks of owning it.

I would take it to where you bought it and have them do an initial set up on it. Initial setups are usually free of charge. Then after you get it home and play it more you can fine tune the action a tad more to your liking. If you already know how to do setups then by all means do it yourself.

And it seems to be solid asian-grade "mahogany" instead of the plywood some people's Epis seem to be made from. I keep being surprised at the very decent level of quality the "budget" brands like Epi, Squier, Cort and SX are coming up with lately.

I'd say Epiphone basses (and their Gibson siblings) are a bit of an acquired taste as they're so different from the Fender standard in almost every way. And in this case, not the most versatile with just the one big humbucker pickup. But I like it just fine.

If I could I'd probably trade it for one of those sweet Ibanez Artcores semi-hollows, though. They look great but are a bit pricey for me. Anyone up for it? :D

I played that Ibanez at a local music shop. It was awesome sounding! I'm just not a semi-hollow bass guy though. I would get it though, just not now.

Here's an idea! You get that AGB200 right now and I'll trade my Eb-0 for it. It's a fine little cheap bass, and, you know, it's solidbody! Since you're not a semi-hollow bass guy it's a perfect match. I'm sure it will be a very satisfying trade for all involved. :D

Well it was either a battery that was going or my cable, either way I got a new battery and better cable and all is well now.

Back on track; I'm loving my SR300 :) Thanks to all who made comments, never even a doubt now that I made the exchange. And while I'm still very much a beginner with no money I did try the SR500 and LOVE it. All in all I'm loving the SR series a lot. So now my sites are set on someday adding another higher up SR but first is a better amp.

Congratulations! Good to see all this idle internet banter can actually help people every now and then!

If I were you I'd find some dodgy get money fast scheme (or, I don't know, work extra hard?) so you can get the money to run back to the store and buy that used SR800 as well! That looked like a pretty good deal, and if you have a bass you love and a backup from the same series so it feels and sounds similar, then the basics are covered for a long time.

And if the dings and scratches annoy you there's always the option of refinishing! Paint it a nice metallic color that complements the SR300's orange. And add some racing stripes while you're at it! That's what I would do if I got any of those sleek, aerodynamic SR basses. They already look to me kinda like those cool futuristic concept cars, just add a couple go-faster lines to enhance the impression and you're set. :smug:

Good Deal, and now you can go hang out in the "Amps/Cabs" forum. There are many choices, and the only thing I would suggest is get a separate amp/cab setup.

I own an ibanez iceman bass and an epiphone thunderbird bass. In my opinion epiphone is like a cheap toy. If you want a good bass get an ibanez. I recommend the Ibanez icb300ex Iceman. Its your choice but Ibanez is the way to go.
