Epoxy Coated Maple Fretless G&L L2500?

Has it been done?

I'm seriously considering defretting my '00 L2500 w/bound birdseye board, but it's a great fretted bass, too. Obviously the solution is to order a custom fretless from G&L, but that's not really an option at the moment.

Just curious.

I'd hate to see such a nice bass defretted, but if you need a fretless, why not. I bought a fretless bass and added an epoxy coat. Well, superglue- I guess there is a difference. It was actually very easy to do and cost me about $15. I didn't have to defret though, I just had to do the coating.

Nice job!

It's less about needing another fretless (I've got several others - all completely different, though) and more about wanting A), an epoxy/polyester-coated maple board (don't have), and B), a fretless L2500 with the specific electronics mods I've made to mine (not seen in the photo).

Honestly, as much as I love this thing fretted, I'd prefer to play fretless most of the time and this one would make a GREAT fretless.

Not sure I'd risk this wonderful and somewhat rare bass with it's bound birdseye fingerboard, though. Maybe I should defret my maple board Am. Jazz 5... hmm.

I wouldn't mess with this bass personally. I love the look and sound of a fretless, but this bass is just too nice to rip those frets out of. I have two G&L guitars that have the binding like this one and I just can't see someone hurting that fretboard like that. Rip the frets out of that Fender. Please don't harm the G&L.

Alrighty, then, I WON'T do it!!!

I love the bass as-is. Especially after making some mods to the electronics. With a good parametric EQ, I can get just about any sound out of this thing that I can imagine.

Maybe I'll look for a tribute to mess with, or just build another Warmoth and put in some MFDs. The possibilities are kinda endless...

Thanks for bringing back from the brink of insanity!
