It's overkill to have a bypass on each filter section. The noise is miniscule especially in the context of instrument amplification. Still, I like the idea of a parametric and have been championing the approach here for years. That's why I don't plan to let go of my EA iamp 200 so easily. By the way, control of the octave around 4 kHz is very useful.

I was thinking of going with something like 25-400 Hz, 160-2.5 kHz, and 1 k-16 kHz.

Point taken about the noise being insignificant...I guess I'll be able to see for myself during the prototyping phase, as well.

Other then the piezo-friendly impedance, any other features that would be important/nice to include that haven't been mentionned so far?

Sounds about right. I'll try to obtain the schematics for Mr. Deck's Hpf-pre (last I checked the "tech" section of his website was still under construction - if someone knows of another place where they are currently posted, let me know) and see if I can put it all in one unit - I think that would be pretty cool. It might end up with enough switches and knobs to send a non-geek into a seizure, though.

If there's any interest, I can update on my progress on here, but it's going to take a while: between my full-time classes, part-time job, 2 bands and all the steps involved in building this thing (not to mention that I'm fairly new at this), this one might move slow. I'll have to zombie-thread the s*** out of it.

I'll get the components to get started on the Hpf part of the device soon. I've thought about the project some more, and if I can add a balanced XLR output without adding too much noise, I'll do it. This way, I'd end up with all the gizmos I'm likely to need for my DB in one sturdy unit: Hpf preamp with phase inversion switch, para EQ, boost, and a DI.

Will it be powered by AC adapter? Option for power via XLR?

Please keep us posted, I might be interested to build one for myself too, since there is not a lot of options on the market. By the way, I recently found that, ParaEQ aside, the Radial PZDI ( [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ) looks like a great box to carry around, even if its only phantom powered.

Yeah, some of their stuff seems pretty neat. Actually, something like the PZ-Pre deluxe (I think that's what it's called) is what I'm shooting for, except their EQ only has one selectable frequency (for the midrange), and I want to have 3.

Will do. The Hpf-pre and DI parts should be fairly straighforward (since I have the schematics), but the EQ part is what will be more demanding, time-wise. As mentionned, given my current schedule, it will move slow...it might even take something like a few months, but I'd rather take my time and do it right then put something together real quick, only to wish I had put more thought into it once it's done.

I guess I feel lucky that the WW amp I bought years ago is the "sweeper" type, with 3-band parametric. The low can function as a variable hp-filter, the mid can boost desirable mid/wood sounds or cut undesirable resonance, and the high works as an overall control of the top.
Btw I think a phase switch is important, because helps secure that the amplified sound works "with" your acoustic sound, and not against it.
