I have a fairly unique setup where I run a dry signal AND an effected signal into a single channel amp using a summer pedal. It is basically a poor man's way of having a 2 amp setup with 1 amp.
My bass signal goes into an EMX Mono Synth that has a dry and synth output. This is where the signal splits. The dry signal goes straight to a Saturn Works Active Summer Pedal that allows for 2 signals to come in and 1 to go out. It even has a volume knob for each signal to mix however much of each you want. Sort of the opposite of an ABY switch.
The synth output from the EMX Mono Synth goes into a multi-effects pedal where I can add a ton of other effects, but it also has a preamp section where I can adjust the bass/mid/treble separate from the EQ settings on the bass amp. From there the signal goes into the other input on the summer pedal, is joined together with the dry signal, and goes to the bass amp.
My idea is to have my "clean" tone (when the synth isn't engaged and none of the effects on the multi-effects board are engaged) be a mix of the tone coming from the multi-effects board pre amp settings and my normal bass tone.
So far, I have not been able to dial in a tone I like. My thought was that the preamp could focus on a more high end trebley sound, and my bass amp settings be more of the bottom end. I know guitar players that run a 2 amp setup where one amp is all high end the other is low end and they get an amazing sounding mix.
I am hoping someone can provide suggestions on how to adjust the EQ settings on both the amp and preamp to get a good 2 tone mix. I am also open to suggestions on dialing in a little reverb and/or chorus since I can add in some of that on the preamp as well. HELP!
