    Confused about EQing

Hey guys. I’m hoping this isn’t a dumb question but I really need help figuring out some EQ issues I’ve been having. A lot of the bass parts I play in my band are meant to stick out. I obviously don’t want to be the center of attention tone-wise though. The last gig we had, I messed around with...

How to get napalm death's behs tone?

I've looked literally everywhere i can think of (googled it once) and i couldn't find any discussions on the matter. Anyone got any ideas (preferably relating to eq and general effects instead of specific amps/pedals because i am exceedingly poor). For reference, i mean something like 2:04 in...

The magic of a tone knob

Haven't had a bass with a simple master tone since my first ever bass guitar over 15yrs ago (mim jazz). Since then, I've only had the standard 3-band EQ type basses. 3 months ago purchased two basses at once (package deal from a friend), both with the same config: neck volume, bridge volume...

    Get the J scoop on a P?

Disclaimer (as I guess someone might kick off with such a header): I'm well aware there are nuances and variables pertaining to different basses and pickup configurations that cannot be fully replicated, and that's the beauty of musical instruments. However, in the age of modelling/profiling...

EBS Drome 15 - Your Favorite EQ settings

I have a Drome 1x15 which I'm unable to get a clear sound out of, and I have found limited EQ info here on Talkbass or Basschat UK. The original speaker was replaced with an Eminence Neo driver, plus I had handles installed on it, both upgrades for weight saving and transportability. The point...

Amp EQ Control Style: 3 band semi-parametric v. 4 band

It seems like a lot of popular amps and preamp pedals these days have either a 3 band eq with sweepable midrange, or a 4 band eq. Generally speaking what are the pros and cons? Which is more useful? Are there situations where one is more advantageous than another?

    Iron Claw Bass Tone

I am wanting to know how to get a bass tone like Alex Wilson from the doom metal band Iron Claw (i.e., Clawstrophobia, Skullcrusher). He primarily used Simms-Watts amps, afaik. There is a WEM stack pictured here. I believe he used Selmer as well. And some kind of Fender bass. I would like...

    The tone of wood

Certain wood types have a characteristic sound to them, but where In the frequency range are they? Think Ash for the slight bite and growl is has, or Alder for the warm punch. How do you guys dial in your amp/eq. to get the characteristics of the wood through?

    Bass Tones EQ settings question

Are there music styles or classic bass tones set by a 4 band EQ setting; (Bass, Lo-Mid, Hi-Mid, Treble) and Compression as an extra tool for creating those, If so what sounds and tones you are getting from different EQs?

    EQ Settings Help

I have a fairly unique setup where I run a dry signal AND an effected signal into a single channel amp using a summer pedal. It is basically a poor man's way of having a 2 amp setup with 1 amp. My bass signal goes into an EMX Mono Synth that has a dry and synth output. This is where the...

    low/high pass filters…

why do soo few amps have them? I recetly played an amp with dedicated low pass/high pass filters built in and I loved the ability to quickly control all of my lower frequencies as well as all of the high end. Felt much more natural to do it that way and cleared up my sound in the room. Isn't...

    Your preferred way to toneshape?

Greetings all, My first post here on TalkBass! Relatively new to the bass world and picked up an Ibanez SR305e a couple of months ago, along with a TC BG250 Combo amp I just got this past weekend. The combo amp has TonePrint capabilities, but I have been having some very mixed experiences...
