I play bass in a band using a crate bx100. I am now being asked to pad our song list by singing lead and playing guitar on a few tunes. Instead of gigging with two amps I was hoping to play guitar through the crate also. Stage space extremely limited since we are a 6 piece playing bars.
Contrary to internet knowledge gutar sounds are terrible through this bass amp.
I am considering using an eq pedal after the guitar pedal board, thrn using an a/b switch to select inputs whether bass or guitar.
Iam am wondering what freqs to trim or boost to change the eq profile to more closely perform like a guitar amp.
First off might thi work? Second what is a good eq pedal for this application.

So..... tough love coming your way. That amp isn't even am amazing bass amp.... not horrible....but not great I remember that series being pretty "muddy" tone wise. I fear there's virtually no way to get a decent guitar sound out if it.

If budget is a concern, your best bet would be to get a used guitar multi effects pedal and run it straight to the board and put some in your monitors. It will sound WAY better than trying to run through that bass amp.

This can work, but keep in mind that your guitar will sound REALLY CLEAN through a bass rig. The number one thing to do is make sure you eliminate frequencies over 5khz. Distortion going through the tweeter will sound awful. A guitar pedal with amp and speaker emulation built in is CRUCIAL.

Two fingers has a good idea about sending the guitar signal straight to the monitor wedges - as long as you have some sort of speaker emulation on that pedal, this can work decently.

The amazing part of that amp is the 100bucks I paid for it.

From what I can find, the BX100 does not have a tweeter.

Off the top of my head, I’d suggest using the proposed EQ pedal to boost a bit in the 2-4 kHz range, maybe even down to 1 kHz. That should get some “presence” out of the big 15” speaker. Next try cutting as much as you can below ~100, as those frequencies are probably exaggerated, this being a bass combo.

Can't recommend any good EQ pedals because I've never used one. But if you can find one that's parametric EQ instead of graphic, it might be better suited for this kind of tone shaping

So decided to ignore more internet "knowledge" and plugged my guitar pedal board direct into my p.a. mixer. Despite not using the "internet required" speaker and amp emulation pedals it sound very good. Thanks two fingers for saving me 150 bucks on an eq I didn't need. My mixer has hi-res inputs that I hah no idea what they were for previously. Unfortunately the band's gig p.a. and mixer does not so I have to get a did box. There goes that 150bucks I just saved but it's spent on something that will work

I remember seeing Average White Band live here in St. Louis and marveling at Hamish Stewart and Alan Gorrie hand off the bass or guitar
to one another while doing lead vocals My take, just play the same instrument and amp for bass
or guitar. I know it sounds weird, but it works.

You can probably pick up a “decent” little guitar amp for about the same as the EQ pedal, or a little more. Maybe look at an Orange RT20. I was going to suggest a drive pedal like the Wampler Euphoria (which you can also use on bass very effectively), but it’s the same price new as the Orange.

Or, if this is a limited-term thing and investing in guitar is not the best route, get yourself a proper bass combo that will also do better with guitar. My guess is that your bass through the 100-watt Crate is lost in the mix of your 6-piece band anyway. Fender Rumble or GK are good places to start.

And welcome to TalkBass. This won’t be the only reply recommending you buy gear. That’s how this place works.

My guitar pedal board has three gain pedals including a euphoria. Worked ok going through a k&k preamp i have foe my acoustics. Should work with less color when i get a radial di box next week. Resigned that this is rehearsal only
Will use fender blues deville and crate plugged into pa for gigs
