EQ'ing a P tone?

I did a search and could not find much on this topic. Is it possible, in theory anyway, to EQ in a P tone? What would be the settings?

EQ just adjusts frequencies in a static way; not all tone is a question of EQ. Generally speaking a P is known for strong low-mids and not so much of the extreme highs or lows, so that's a starting point. But if there's a specific growl or punch or whatever you may think of when you think "P", an EQ may not be able to do it.

I'm using an MIA Jazz active V. I know it's tough to get a humbucking tone from a single coil, but I was playin around with the 200 frequency on my SVT and felt like I was getting close...

You can only achieve a P-bass tone with a P-bass.

IMHO, A P/J does it, too.

Rolling on the neck pup will get you close. EQing will get you a little closer. You really need to A/B it with the real thing and let your ears and fingers do the rest.

I have both a Jazz and a P. I dont think you can ever get a Jazz to sound exactly like a P, but maybe one can get it close. I prefer the neck on a jazz and I think the Jazz can cut thru the mix better than the P in alot of gig situations, but some songs need a more "P' sound, so what I do, is turn the back PU off and the front PU all the way up, then tone knob to more bass, about 80%, then on the Gk amp, treb 11:00, Hi-mid,11:00, low-mid 1:00, and lows 1:00. Also I use S.I.T. Silencer strings. Hope this helps.

The easiest way to EQ in a P tone is to play a P and leave the EQ flat.

But playing P/J gives you options - to P or not to P, that is the question!

I usually find Jazz basses get lost in the mix easier.

Yeah...I don't want to gig with two basses, but there are less than half the tunes (we do) requiring a P tone, which was part of the reason I asked the question. So in 'real world' live applications, (vis a vis amp settings) I was thinking about using the second channel on my SVT III and am looking at setting it at around 200 with a boost, then around 650 as a cut, for those particular tunes...I don't know.
