Double Bass Ergo Megathread part I

Cool, thanks, I was planning on getting a german to start. I played a little cello in high school (poorly), but from researching here I'd like to try out the german grip, and I've read a lot of guys switch french to german on a german bow, including you, correct? It's down to one of the cheap carbons or the lowest level ksb german, I think I'm going with the ken smith, unless someone thinks the carbons would be better.
How was the show, did you use the ergo?

Either of those should be good. I use both grips on a German bow. Both are useful. The gig went great and the Ergo was fantastic. I really have it set up right, arco it is just fantastic.
Part of it for me is that I have only been using the amp for a little under 2 years (I was all acoustic for about 10 years solid, on the rare occasion I plugged in the double bass I never bothered to try get a great sound.)
So I have really learned a lot about twisting the knobs.

I bought an Ergo 5 from a fellow TBer as my introduction into the world of uprights. I've been reading the EUB threads a lot and have gleaned a lot of information so far and plan on getting at least one lesson so that I don't start off with too many bad habits. Any other advice for new EUB players (longtime BG player) would be appreciated!

Turns out the bass needs a new nut and bridge, so it's in the shop (Blackerby's in Austin TX). I haven't scored a bow yet but I did find that NS strings look to fit it pretty well. I also need to replace the stand as it rattles like a can of nails, good thing there's a thread about that here. :)

Hey yall,
I bought a six string Ergo about six months ago and as many of you know the stand attachment method blows out loud. I dig the Bass itself as I play it through a Boss GT-6B
and a little SWR system. Anywho, the glue failed and the metal insert just came right out. Does anyone out there have a GOOD method of attachment? I've been researching drum hardware to come up with a better method but nothing excites me yet. Thanx, Joe

I went to the Drum Shop in Austin TX and Jeff fixed me up with a similar stand that was nicer and didn't rattle at all and I got a great deal to boot. Maybe check with your local drum shop? They have ways of making stands stick to stuff.

Also wanted to add that I scored some NS strings at the suggestion of the guys at Bass Emporium and they were a perfect fit. I went with a low B since that's what I'm used to on my BGs.

Just got my 6 last week, and after a setup on the nut and bridge, a little dressing on the fingerboard on the e I'm happy with it. It's a prototype, number 006, made out of purpleheart. It's my first upright, I've played 5's and more recently 7 string electrics for 13 years, so it's taking some getting used to, but I like it a lot.

Hey all,

I have a 4-stringer EUB that I've been playing for a couple of months now. Finally I got to changing the stock strings (about time, I know). I put D'Addario Helicores, even managed to get the E string on without destroying it, and then the tuner crapped out on me. It says Jin Ho, made in Korea. I want to replace it (and the rest of them, just to be on the safe side) with something more reliable, so I want to know if there is any reputable brand tuner (Gotoh, Schaller etc., anything that's easy to find) that will fit the hole on the headstock without any drilling or modification. I have no experience whatsoever working with wood, so I'm pretty sure I'll **** it up, and I really don't want to. Anybody done that? Any ideas would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

If it is the same as my Ergo they are the standard Gotoh size tuners. Gotoh and Hipshot are two that should fit. Many others are made in that size too.

I should be able to get some clips up. I had two of the octave strings snap so I need to replace those. It also seems to have a grounding problem. I've seen a few others mention it. Just a little bit of hum till you touch the back jack plate. I'm thinking a brass plate on the back for the strings to run through and run a ground underneath up to the jack plate. I'm going to suss it out thoroughly first though.

I also need my # :hyper:!

I'd love to hear some sound clips when you are able, those seem like they'd sound very cool.

I get a hum at my apt. but not at gigs.

Mine is humming. touching strings to jack plate to stand helps but only stops completely if I touch it. Annoying. I just got it. I'm kind of stumped at this point. all my other basses are whisper quiet so its with the Ergo. I'm going to try this shielding to see if that helps: Link Removed

I'm curious if the hum problem that people mentioned in previous years is still a problem with the newest Ergos. Can anyone comment on that?
