Big fan of original Janes lineup here too. Is that a black Schaller 3D roller bridge?
For me, that would be overdoing the tribute thing. And if, cosmetics aside, the bass would be similar to standard issues, I think the entire 'signature' model would be a gimmick.
Eric is the reason I bought my first bass. Whores is part of my daily routine. It’s my ringtone and it never gets old. It’s a shame they couldn’t get along.
Two parts I like from him are of course The Mountain Song, and also Idiots Rule. Something he does that I appreciate is he knows when to let a note speak.
Old post but just for reference it can't be an early 80's as those had skunk stripes and walnut plugs on the headstock even if it was a rosewood board. More likely that it was a very late 79 model that had been hanging around. Unless he was mistaken about it being new. I wonder if the pickups are just an aftermarket cover?
I bought a P bass because of the basslines of Eric Avery. I'm more of a contemporary EBMM, active/barts kind of bass player... but I love to play my Fender P and bust out Janes Addiction basslines. I know just about every song on Ritual... and several from Nothing's Shocking. Favorites... Summertime Rolls and Three Days. Been Caught Stealin' was fun to play live.... miss those cover band days in the early 90's.

Love Eric Avery’s JA work. A true influence on me. I play and listen to Jane’s stuff all the time. It doesn’t hurt that my wife is as big a fan as I am.
I love all the songs listed above, but my faves to play are: Ocean Size, Then She Did (favorite JA song), Ted Just Admit It, Whores, and Obvious.

His post JA work with Navarro in Deconstruction is awesome as well.
+1 here who got into bass because of EA. Up The Beach was the very first song I learned on bass. and I moved onto Then She Did, BCS, Whores, Mountain Song and 3 Days, alongside most of The Cure's Disintegration. Trip Away is still one of my favourites. Deconstruction's album is an absolute belter and still sounds great today.
Only recently did I realize how much of a driving force Eric's basslines were to the JA sound. I'm a huge JA fan and first got into them at 18 years old when I heard Three Days on satellite radio, after that I listened to them religiously for years. I was able to catch them at Coachella and the Hollywood Bowl when Flea was on bass duty, both were killer shows!
Eric is a master at writing such beautiful and hooky basslines. It's a damn shame Perry couldn't keep it together because it looked like Dave, Stephen and Eric were on top of their game during the tour!
As others have said, be sure to checkout Deconstruction, Eric and Dave made some amazing music on that album too!
