Ernie Ball Stainless Flats

I have a set of the Group 2.5’s on one of my J basses and think they sound great on that bass. I feel like they sit somewhere between D’Addario Chromes and La Bella’s as far as tone.
I agree with that ^^^ in re tone, but I think the EB’s are just a tad more flexible than either. …not Dunlop-flexible; closer to DTF’s than they are to Chromes.

I put a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt Slinky (45, 65, 80,100) on my AM Pro II P bass a week ago and I really like them. I've been playing for 49 years and I have never used flat wounds. The first bass I ever bought was a 1972 Musicmaster and it had black nylon wrapped flats on it. I changed to Roto sounds immediately as I loved Entwistle's sound and I have always used round wounds (stopped using Rotos a while ago because of too may dead strings right out of a new pack). I don't know what took me so long to try flats but I'll be trying other brands next string change for sure.

A bit of a zombie thread, but do you have any updates here? I've been curious about group flats too but the cobalts left such a bad impression on me I'm hesitant to try another ernie ball string. You're the only other person I've found that brought up the arm hair snagging feature I hated in the cobalts!
Sorry for the late reply... I did not end up trying them, but I'm glad to learn that I'm not the only one out there that went through this!
