Ernie Ball Strings

I've got a set of the Regular Slinkys for 5 string ready and raring to go on my custom Bass that is just about finished being built. I've always loved the feel of these strings on all the Stingray's I've played, so I'm very curious to see how they go on a different Stingray'esque bass.

I've been a DR user for a longtime and I feel it's about time for a change. My last set of Lo-riders made me go off DR altogether! Hoping the Slinky's can be my regular string of choice.

I just recently did the opposite! I've had a set of SS Lo-Riders on for about a week. The tone sounds almost the same as the Slinkys on my Jazz, but the Lo-Riders seem slightly brighter. The feel is about the same as well, but the Lo-Riders are a bit rougher. I'm worried about the life of the bright tone on the Lo-Riders. I can't see them staying as bright as long as the Slinkys.

Interesting, which Slinkys were you using? How would you compare the tension of both sets?

I just replaced the Blue Steel set (50-128) I had put on my Stingray 5 with Regular Slinkys and I am so glad I went back to Ernie Balls.

The bass just plays better with these strings, I could get the action lower, the tone is nice and bright but not scooped sounding and they are a lot easier to play.

I was a die hard Blue Steel fan for years but am planning on putting EB's on all my basses. Awesome price too and they are usually available everywhere.

I had this problem too ... I actually had to unwind some of the strings outer winding to fit the last 1/2" through the hole in the bridge of my Schecter Stilleto 5 .

Does anyone know if this will hurt the string in any way? I tuned up fine and seems to sound all right, but I didn't see any other way of fitting this string through.
I had that problem with those cheap-ass bridge saddles on my schecter.
Get a round needle file and make it wider.
Do a little at a time until your string guage of choice fits. Thats what I did, it works. ;)

I used a heavy set of Slinkys on a 5 string SR that I had. Sounded decent until I snapped a b string, and I don't use a pick at all. The snap wasn't really because of the string, I had to sand down the saddles on the bridge a little bit. I hate EB guitar strings more than any other, I really do think they're just crap strings. Although, for the four months I used their bass strings I was surprised how well they matched up to DR, but at the end of the day i went back to Hi-Beams; they don't take as long to stretch out and I'm just used to them anyways.
