Esh bass question

There's an Esh bass for sale in my area and searching hasn't come up with much.

The bass is a standard Jazz body, black, black neck plate, maple neck and fingerboard, single coil pups, 4 control knobs in the shape of the Nike symbol which seemed to be v/v/bass/treble. Headstock said Esh, handmade in Germany. Weighed about 9 lbs. Sounded and played great!

Basically, I'm looking for any info I can get on these basses. Their website seems to be down and Google isn't helping much. Anything I did find about Esh came up with a completely different body style and pickup config. It would also be nice to know how to identify year and what a fair price would be for this used bass.

Hi. This is a Notorius 2, basically a J Bass. The other ones were probably Various, Stinger, Sovereign models.

I owned several esh basses and still own a Notorious 2 five string (1st production model of the Notorious 2 series).
Build quality varied thhrough the years. Especially at the end of esh guitars, they seemed to have produced some lemons. But yours seem to be a good one (So is mine: 1998)

I am not sure about your control knob layout. Usually the "esh-tronic" was used on those basses.

-Volume
-Pickup Selector: Bridge, both PUs parallel, Bridge + Mid Boost, both PUs in series.
-Mode selector: passive, passive w. Piezo, active, Studio (volume & tone pots bypassed.
-Tone (treble roll off)

In the control cavity there is a trimpot for the Piezo PU (which may react counterclockwise, depending on the production year).

But it could be possible that someone swapped all of this for the layout you specified.
So did I, I didn't care for the scooped sound in active mode.

Hey Ben, that bass belongs to Owen, the shorter, 40s-ish guy that works up there. He may be able to tell you a little about it, but anytime you ask him about one of his personal basses, he just can't get out of "salesman" mode, even if it's not one that's for sale!

Thanks for the info Adron. I've been gone awhile so I didn't see your post until now. What do you think about that Esh? I like it more than my jazz now, but not enough to justify the price, and John's not very willing to deal. Finding info has been difficult since there's no website. I'm assuming they're out of buisness.

i have an old esh various made around at year 2000, it has esh tronic circut but the bridge seems not the piezo type, i take the saddle off and saw nothing. any ideas?
