Esp Ltd AP5

For an excellent variety of tone, the AP-5 offers a set of active EMG P5 and LJ5 pickups, with a volume, balance, and tone control to dial in your sound quickly.

It does look like a killer bass. Not familiar with LTD but I have heard good things. Back to electronics. Having active pickups with a passive pre amp. Isn't that a pretty rare combo?
It is not the norm, especially with you think of Nordstrand, Seymour Duncan, ect with a Audere or Bart pre ect...However with EMG its pretty common.

Ok so over all this is a great instrument and especially for for the price.

I have 1 criticism
-The tuner posts are really small. I had one hell of a time dealing with a .126 B-string. They are almost like guitar tuners.
Instead of Grovers I would have gone with the import version Hipshot.

Yeah a painted headstock would be nice but its only cosmetic.

The 19mm spacing does not feel necessarily 19 (if that makes sense), it feels to me a touch tighter which I prefer, but its not a deal breaker. At this point I would rather have 19 over 17 if giving the option between the two. 18mm spacing is perfect to me.

Overall for everything this bass and what it costs.
I would give it a 9 out of 10.

Thanks @TonyP- I am really floored with the feel and sound of this instrument.
One thing that has me miffed are the strings. On the ESP website they spec 45-125 but the only XL’s I see available are 45-130. Not a big deal for me and I actually like the stock strings but curious. I’m thinking these are stainless which surprises me because I prefer the feel of nickel but these are nice.

I put 45-126 GHS Progressives on...My big complaint on this bass is how small that post is. So don't try to put many windings on.
Cheers

I got one about a month and a half ago. I agree, absolutely killer instrument.

Doesn't the neck just feel amazing?!

Heck yeah it does! I had a 5’r about two years ago, wanting to make the leap but just wasn’t diggin it. As soon as I picked this one up I immediately felt comfortable with it. It is a special bass. Neck. Spacing. Fit/finish. Sound. It’s all above what I hoped for.
Btw... your comments and Tony’s reassured my decision and had a lot of influence. So for that, I thank you.

LTD has terrific quality control, even all the way down to its lower level instruments. The frets on mine were gleaming they were so polished.

And thanks for the compliment, because like you, when a guy and professional like Tony P lets you know how much he likes it - that's a pretty damn good endorsement and I took the leap based on that.

I owned an LTD before and it was great I just didn't expect how big is step up this would be.

Awesome instrument choice, I actually am in the middle of paying off my AP5 blue, just like this. Now for my first initial in the shop impressions are, AWESOME instrument! Don't hesitate on this one. I had it for about 20 minutes in the store and it felt incredible out of the box. Coming from a guy who owns, Spector, Warwick, EBMM, ESP/LTD, basses etc, alot of active players, but this one is one of those unsung treasures if you don't know. Definitely don't mistake the traditional look and layout as though "ahh it's just another P-bass 5 pj copy.." this thing sounds and plays phenomenal stock. I could only imagine with a full active set-up but hey sounds great as is. What can you say? Amazing feeling instrument, great hardware, awesome and musical sound, easy simple controls, striking looks that are at home in all kinds of genres, all at a VERY favorable cost when compared to many others...ESP definitely delivered the goods one this one..Just get it..lol;)

Well said, and true.
I had such a hard time picking up a production 5’r and feeling comfortable before this AP5. This thing makes it easy!
