Sometimes looks, sometimes familiarity, sometimes slight tonal differences and sometimes it stays in tune better but ESP is known for using good hardware.

Yep. The electronics are all EMG. The hardware is also really, really good. I don't think you'd gain anything by swapping parts. You've got an awesome bass there, as-is. Play the hell out of it.

What exactly are differences between Surveyor II and Surveyor 400? And Rich Mullins (from Karma to Burn) seems to use a 400 model, is that right?

Sorry for digging this one up from the archives but I recently was just loaned a ltd surveyor 415 by my brother (current drummer in my band, former bass player) I normally play a passive 4 string Jazz bass but I am digging all the sounds and options this ltd has to offer. And to be said, I don't understand how a fender style headstock can be ugly... it's the most iconic bass headstock ever.
