You can't assume you know this. Psychotherapist are needed because people have psychological problems. A person may not know they have a cognitive bias. It's invisible to them. It's part of their make up. For example you will run into people who don't think they need psychotherapy, but are referred by their family or friends and working with a Psychotherapist they may learn they are in need of help. Psychotherapist know better than to self diagnose or assume they have no cognitive biases.

Fair enough.

I was scaling my confidence in my self-evaluation of whether this was simply in my head, which was suggested. That's a perfectly acceptable way to do psych assessment. I agree that therapist's should know they have biases and are not neutral, we talk about this constantly in my program.

Here, more precisely:

On a scale of 1-7 (7 being most likely), how likely do you think it is that what your hearing is in your head?

(2)

That's what I'm trying to convey, my self assessment.

Robin, I'll tell you what it is...I know how hard it is to earn $200. It's damn hard for most of us. And if people can be prevented from spending their hard earned money on stuff that doesn't work, I'm all for calling it out. It doesn't work and nobody can prove it does other than, "oh yeah, I hear it." It's on them to prove it works, not on us to prove it doesn't. Victor Wooten's and Michael Rhoades' testimony isn't cutting it, especially when the Michael Rhodes video is a result of the way he's playing.

True, I would never recommend this product to any of my students. They have many better things to spend their $ on music wise, not the least of which is more lessons! ;)

That being said, if you're has dedicated to sounding your best because music is your life, your job, and you already have all of your dream gear like I do, than little stuff like this seems like a bargain. $130 i think is what I paid (on sale), that's about 3/4 of a gig or two hours of teaching for me. Honestly, I wish there were more little tweeks like this I could use on all my gigs for that amount of $.

in a real world sense, what does it matter? is the average music listening audience listening through hi-fi speakers?

I only bought/kept this product for my own enjoyment on gigs, which has as lot to do with how clear my sound is so I can hear the nuances in my playing, in my touch, etc. I play better when I love my sound, which is happening more and more these days, and yes the cable made enough difference that I can say I'm feeling more satisfied with my tone. I'm getting the best sound of my life in 2011.

If a piece of gear creates a virtuous cycle of pleasure and improved performance, that's a great thing, IMHO. If that comes through to my audience, yeah, it matters. It matters a lot.

I'd be into it (impulse buy) for $50 bucks Maybe $75 but at $200 if that's what you say it is, then well I'd have to put that towards a rig that did if for me without help from the power cable, and don't get me wrong, I'm the first dude to run out and spend $20, $50, $100 extra bucks on heavier gauge anything concerning my rig. That being said, I heard a difference. Better? Heck I was impressed with his tone right off the bat! I just wasn't as orgasmic as he was about the profound difference. Just one of those things I'd have to hear on my rig, using my bass, etc... Before I pulled the trigger on anything.

Again, his tone with the ESP cord was a result of playing harder, not the cord. It's the old before/after trick...take a picture of someone looking really sad for the before, and smiling and happy in the after, and it'll sell any beauty product. Made me a little sad...Michael Rhodes is very well-respected, and now he's put his reputation on the line for a product like this. Money talks.

Years back when I worked in the TV industry, I got a chance for a private guided tour of the Monster Cable factory up by San Fransico. Nice folks, and I'm not knocking their products at all, because I actually use some of their stuff. Anyway, at some point I get taken to this room where the workers are making their ultra high end stereo cable line. All hand assembled from parts with more techno babble specs than an episode of Star Trek. We're talking $500 for a 18" RCA cord. Comes in it's own velvet lined, aluminum Halburton case, certificate, the works.

So, at some point I ask the rep "Can anyone really hear any noticeable difference between these and say a $50 Monster Cable cord?". He thought about it a minute and replied " Let's put it this way, as long as there are people out there willing to pay $500 for a cable, we are certainly going to supply a product to them".

After that, I got a tour of the private warehouse where the owner of the company keeps some of his exotic car collection. I think my favorite was the Ferrari F40, but then again the McLaren F1 was rather nice too.
Nice

I'm putting my money where my mouth is. I just ordered a MusicCord Pro. I will be evaluating it both in listening tests and by taking measurements. I'd consider taking it apart but that voids my ability to send it back should it not perform as advertised.

Disclaimer: I'm an electrical/electronics engineer by trade and I have experience designing audio gear in the upscale hifi market. I have demoed many many expensive power cables and have never yet found one that made any difference to any audio component, so as you might expect, I'm extremely skeptical.

I am super stoked to hear your side.

Although, I warn you now: If you say it works and is the best thing since sliced bread, I will want to see your credentials! ;)

Mark I was thinking of doing the same thing. They offer a 30 day money back guarantee, no questions asked. The thing that intrigues me the most is what a lot of these top notch players are saying about it. Also what Dave Funk (Thunderfunk amps) had to say about it in an e-mail he sent to me. He said it will make his amps sound even better.

Robin, what I heard in the video was more presence and clarity, no volume gains. I think the biggest question is how could it be possible that a power cord could change tone and a lot of TB'ers on this forum are proving it can't.
Rather then debate about a product I've never heard or even psychically seen I'm just going to purchase one in a week or two and if I hear no difference back it goes to ESP. If nothing else it will cure my curiosity.

This is what gets me about the whole debate...since when is science the enemy? Is ESP using science to prove it works? No they are not. They are using parlor tricks. But there sure is a lot of scientific proof that it doesn't. I just hope that if, God forbid, any of you have sick children, you take them to the hospital and let science do what it can rather than just pray over them.
