Two posts in one day. That's not usually me, but hey, I got alot to think about.
Recently I've started thinking about getting a new bass (relatively cheap), that I could happily take out on gigs and be less worried about losing / damaging. Also I feel like my P bass, which I've been playing so far, doesn't work so great on the entire catalogue of songs we usually play.
I noticed ESP basses quite a long time ago. Actually an ESP could've been my first "real" bass, but instead I chose a Warwick Corvette. Now I was thinking about getting an ESP as a bass to play on gigs.
My reason for this post is twofold. For one I would like to hear your opinions on ESP basses. Tell me everything you experienced. All the positives and ofcourse all the negatives. But beyond that, I would also like to know if some of you might have another brand that I could take a closer look at. For example whenever I heard an Ibanez bass online, I was very displeased with the sound. Might just be bad luck that the respective players were dialing in a tone I didn't like, but as of right now I would never buy an Ibanez. Is that a mistake?
I know that I should probably get out to a music store and play some of those basses, but that's very difficult for me to do right now and I'm more concerned with the overall quality of these brands. I know that ESP (LTD) has a great reputation for their six strings. So maybe the basses are pretty decent too? I am looking for a bass that doesn't fight me basically and will have a pretty long life, maybe even with a little abuse.
I can also add that I can work on the frets of any bass myself, but I would rather not perform any greater work beyond that.
