I love her playing and singing, but I prefer when she plays more traditional style jazz, on either upright or bass guitar. This particular tune reminds me of something from one of those weird psychedelic Sesame Street cartoons I watched growing up in the 70s or something. But there is no denying her talent, and she can play and sing better than almost anyone else I've heard.

And yes, I am a red-blooded male, so there is no denying her attractiveness, either. It's not something you can ignore.

I actually watched a NPR Little Desk Concert after that where she's on Double, doing an amazing solo while singing. Other songs she has a nice compliment of strings.

I hadn't heard of her before but came across this on you tube. She doesn';t start playing until and 2:40 but it's a pretty wild performance.

Looks like she's got some kind of strapless bass? I haven't seen that before.

Her new album has been in my rotation for the last week. That album along with Bowie's Black Star and the latest Tedeschi/Trucks have made my list for best albums of the relatively new year.

This reminds me of school theatre performances a lot I've seen and sounds much better than it looks.
To me it seems she's trying real hard to be different.
Good on her; Experimentation is part of it all.

She sang and played bass in a rock band called Noise For Pretend when she was in high school 15 years ago.

This is not that far from what she's doing today. She's playing DB here, not fretless BG.

I thought it was interesting that she spent so much time interacting with the other singers -- that was a clear focus of the performance. The camera work played that up, too.

Also, the lyrics, about a "pretty girl" flowing like lava: "You stranger; One day I gonna be;Planting your own flattered, conquered fear and fantasy; Right on me."

Ms. Spalding has a lot to say, and says it very well! I'm glad she's not content to avoid risks.

Both Tal and Esmeralda are gorgeous and sexy. With all the talent they have, with what they have accomplished, I think they deserve to do whatever they want.

Two awesome bass players, two awesome talented women. I'd like to see them a lot more live or or on tv.
