Esperanza Spalding : You gotta watch this

I finally saw the entire NPR concert. I am glad I downloaded the album first. That way the songs made more sense to me. Although parts of the show were stiff and odd, I loved all of that talent on stage! I've never seen a show where backup singers double on instruments. It is always the other way around. I am not the most harmonically savvy bassist, but Spalding seemed to be playing out when the guitarist was soloing. She could be a female Jack Bruce of color if she wants to. I am a bigger fan than ever.

Watched the entire show again just now, for like the 4th time. And won't repeat myself about liking it. But a few technical questions:

- how do you hook up a bass guitar to your belt like that?
- what model keyboard bass is on the floor - I want one of those!
- I know I can't afford it, but what is that fretless fiver she's playing?

The NPR concert find prove that Esperanza is human because several times when her intonation was off. She quickly corrected, but it was proof she is not Ex Machina with braids!:bassist:

i love that she is human as well as very humble. she also still takes lessons. most recently studying under John Patitucci.

@chuck3 ,.. she's playing a Simon Propert South Paw

Her fretless was made by Simon Propert and is called a South Paw.
