I saw the debut performance of Esperanza Spalding new jazz trio featuring Terri Lynn Carrington on drums , Nicholas Payton on trumpet and keys ( simultaneously:jawdrop:), and Esperanza on double bass and vocals .They call themselves TEN.

Happened at Blues Alley last night in DC/ Georgetown. This venue is very intimate with loads of history. All the greats have and do play there. One of my favorite spots to catch a show.

I spoke to Esperanza briefly . She was all business last night . They did mostly covers and a few oringinal compositions.

This is my 3rd time experiencing Esperanza live and the 2nd time with Terri on drums. They have a chemistry that is unmatched and lock in immediately .

No photos allowed but I did manage to sneak a few during the encore.

Nick has been doing that for years. Rhodes left hand comping and right hand trumpet. When he's not blowing he will do both hands. usually puts a clavinet on top of the rhodes too. i'm a big fan of Payton, his records "Numbers" with Butcher Brown is off the chain, and "Bitches" (esperanza is on a track) is really great fun.
