Mooger fooger envelope filter w/ exp. pedal
Aphex aural exciter
Boss CEB-3 chorus

The mooger fooger is a great envelope filter, but it takes a bit of playing with it to get some good settings.

The exciter is mainly just a boost I use when trying to cut through he mix on heavy pieces.

getting rid of a boss DOB-3, can't get a good distortion sound without getting too much noise.

can anyone tell me what they think are the best distortion pedals used for bass?

I've got both parametric and graphic eq'ing on my Mesa Basis M2000, and either 3:1 or 5:1 compressor's with adjustable threshold and frequency selection, the effect out has a adjustable crossover knob so i could just add effects, like chorus for example, to the high end of the sound spectrum, but for me, I need nothing else.
I would say at a minimum all bassplayers need

graphic eq
compression
tube preamp

Those three things and you can get 99% of the sounds out there imho. You can add bbe processor's or aphex stuff to fatten things up, but if you've got a good eq, theres not much else you need.
