Ok, i found out how to post an mp3 here.

So, this is my SX TEST, sorry for the bad playing, maybe i'll upload something better later.

i tried to feature different "settings", so what you're gonna hear is:

1) Just the bridge Pickup
2) Just the neck Pickup
3) Both Pickups full volume
4) Slap with both pickup at max

As for the tone i forgot what i used hahaha but i think it's close to full tone (if not full tone).

After the first Slap (i'm not a slapper) part i just started messin' around, sorry 4 that.

I hope you can get a picture on how this particular SX bass sounds.

Thanks.

P.S: As i told you before, i plugged in the SX directly into my Macbook Pro, so no Audio Interface or virtual amp was used.

P.S II: If you hear some fret buzz it's because it's been 3-4 months since i got the setup .

Excellent song choices! "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen with "Ready" Freddy Washington slapping on a P bass...and I see you're a big Louis Johnson fan...ditto baby!
You should listen to Freddy's playing on Donald Fagen's solo disc "Morph The Cat". Man, he is so in the pocket.

the neck is much chunkier, as I stated in an earlier post, than the blocked necks on the SJB-75s I've always bought.
I've got the rosewood 62 neck on my QMD redburst, so worst comes to worst and I hate the feel of the maple neck, I can always swap the rosewood to the LPB. With that said though, I love the pic with the de-tinted maple.... I'm gonna have to do that! I hope I like the maple neck. :D

This a "rehearsal" demo of my band CELESTE where i played the SX, again, directly into an Mbox 2 and this time we only did one take with the drummer and one of the keyboard players, that's why its far from "perfect" in terms of playing (was the first rehearsal in more than a month, so we were not that "tight") and sound. We recorded on the Keyboardist room hahaha, so that's why the drums sound a mile away... just a reference recording but anyway, you can get an idea of my band's music at least. I'll upload more"official" demos when i get them... we're about to record our first album.

This song it's called "Paisaje" (landscape or sightseen), it has a very "dark" harmony on the verse, slow tempo and then it opens up to a more "funkier" thing in the Chorus.

This is another demo (not from a rehearsal, and i used my warwick here) from a song call "No Es Suficiente" (It's Not Enough). Again without a proper mix, but i sounds better than the other "super lo fi demo"
Enjoy

Re: your first post...you really should give Fagen's "Morph The Cat" a listen. You'll be surprised at the similarities in the tonality of some of the tunes and what you posted here.
Paisaje is excellent! Love the arrangement and not only does she have fabulous earrings, girlfriend can sing! And bro, you need to stop apologizing, you're selling yourself short...you play well. Nice pocket!

By the way, the stuff reminds me a bit of the band Incognito and that's a major compliment. Randy Hope Taylor is badass.

Thanks Mookie, i'll give Fagen's Morph The Cat a listen....

Randy Hope Taylor is one of my favorite bass player and his playing on Incognito's "Beneath The Surface" CD was a big influence on me when i was growing up.
As i started playing bass as a teenager in the late 90s, one of my main influences was Stuart Zender (Jamiroquai, i met him when he came to Chile during the Travelling Wihout Moving tour on 97, i was 14 and he signed my "Space Cowboy" Copy.

That English "90's acid jazz" thing was a big influence for us (at least for the keyboard player, the singer and me) but nowadays we don't really listen to that kinda grooves.
We love Roy Hargrove's RH FACTOR Cds (with Pino on the bass), Musiq Soulchild, Dwele, and also my all time favorites Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Parliament, Michael Jackson of course... Lately (last 2 years) i've been listening to a lot of THE TIME and ZAPP stuff, so that's another influence.

Yeah, we listen to alot of the same stuff. Of course I'm probably twice your age...maybe more, so I grew up with a few other things in my data bass.

HA! The Time! RELEASE IT...BOY! Man, they were awesome. "Jerome! Bring me my mirror!" ....lol....great stuff.
And Stevie Wonder's bass stuff was/is a HUGE influence on how I approach the instrument.

For $99, I'm tempted:

Do it, you absolutely will not regret it. I payed almost 3 times that for my SX-SJB (I live in Australia) and its quickly become my main bass.

Upon my quest for an SX JB, I've been on many sites in EU and US to find what I wanted. and I must say SX seems to provide different headstocks for every site (of course that can't be true) but here's a few I noticed already
1. Head on the 'old' SJBs at Rondos
2. Head on SJB bought in a shop in Antwerp
3. The compromising head on the newer models
4. Head as found on a site in Spain
5. Head as found on a site in the Netherlands
