So, I picked up an old, early version Hoyt EUB that had already been altered and very used over the years. I had little to lose (except time and $$!), so I embarked on a project to make it a serviceable travel bass, and I’m pleased that it’s just about done.
- the neck was quite thin and the original fingerboard/neck combo was more akin to a BG: thin neck and flat radius. I picked up an old Kay fingerboard from a fellow TBer (thanks wheelsup247!) and had a local luthier swap out the fingerboard and match the bridge shape to the new/old fingerboard.
- the string angle over the bridge was quite steep in the afterlength section - I carved a new saddle out of local walnut.
- Didn’t like the tripod stand idea - lowered the stand attachment and made an angled t-bar endpin, mimicking the balance of my AUB, also made a body support out of various scraps.
- with all the above variables in play, I was able to increase the string length to 41” without ill-effect.
