Has anyone used these? I contacted Pirastro and they're a special order. I'm going to guess they're probably near 1k.

Double Bass Eudoxa Solo

There's another thread here somewhere where I speculate (i.e. guess) that I remembered (is that vague enough) that Rinat Ibragimov used them for his solos. Absolutely NOT sure of this though!
This has a better view of his strings, but I can't make them out, but the do look like Pirastro stripe:
This was discussed on Ken Smith's forum a while back. A participant said he had emailed Rinat to ask, and was told they were specially made Eudoxa Solos.
Those are indeed the Eudoxa solo strings. Rinat is an incredible musician but sadly cannot play any longer. Has used Eudoxas in orchestral and solo tuning, as do many bass players in London.
I have used Eudoxas for orchestra for 10 years but have never tried them in solo tuning, mainly because they are a special production item.
I'd be scared to special order something that is that prone to unwinding, at least where I live.
I lost a Eudoxa A string today when I loosened it to swap it with an Oliv. The wrapping broke at the bridge.
Was trying to get a standard D and solo A for fifths tuning to go on top of RM Spiros..... finally found someone willing to order the A (it took some time) and had the special order number from Pirastro. The single solo A was over $300. I decided against it. I do love the sound and feel of Eudoxa’s, but just can’t justify the cost.
I refuse to use flatwound gut because cheapskate and durability issues don’t mix, but have been told that the only chance of long term survival those strings have in a non-European climate is constant climate control.

Once they go on they can’t ever come off. I’ve had a few breaks over the years and each time I contacted Pirastro and they gave me a new string for free. They’re quite aware of the issues with the winding.
I am also waiting to get a set of the Drago solo strings made by Genssler (Sonores). I really enjoy wrapped gut for bowing

Yea, it is the “special order” nature of the solo A that makes it so ridiculously expensive.....‘.. or at least that is what I was told.
I don't like those. Their solo strings tuned down to orchestral pitch (if you have very high action) sound quite good.
IMHO, none of these 'gut like' strings sound or really feel like true gut. Even the wound gut like Eudoxa is pretty tame in comparison to something raw like unvarnished Baldock or Gamut.
So I heard back as to how much these Eudoxa solo strings cost. I don't feel comfortable stating the price out here in the open but if you're interested feel free to PM me. They're too expensive to buy IMHO.
I currently use 2 Eudoxa strings as a soloist, in my opinion they are the best strings I have ever played, they have a very torn sound and are quite thick (I personally like them) the only bad thing I can say is that they took 2 months to make because It is a special production and also the price is so expensive.In my opinion the sound si similar like Rinat Ibragimov
