hey guys, thought I'd dig up this old thread since I managed to find and purchase a brand new (technically made in 2000 but never used) Rumble Seat and have been using it like crazy for the past few days.
First off, the sound out of this thing is ridiculous. I can't really tell if it's a 6" or 8" speaker in there cause the whole thing is really small but using my AC KBP5 w/ TI flats and my EA Iamp Pro, it almost sounds as full as my Epifani 2x15. Obviously it can't handle the same amount of volume, but even with the deep switch on (+6 db @ 50hz) the speaker doesn't even flinch. I hooked a Shure SM57 up to it and made a quick recording on pro tools and was blown away by the quality of sound. It's really like a flip-top on steroids. With the box closed, you can really feel the bass by sitting on it and it's just enough to give you that full, rich, low end feel without being too much or uncomfortable. (I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't enjoy my ass being vibrated all night on a gig lol) With the box open, the speaker can actually get pretty loud (mind you I'm pushing it with 600 watts @ 8 ohms) and if you stand over it it can be a great monitor.
So, I took it to a gig last night. It sounded amazing and the sound guy was at a loss for words when I explained how it worked to him. And it sounded super fat in the house. Now the bad part happens. So after my first set, I walked out of the club to hang with some friends while they smoked their cigarettes. I come back in about a half hour later to find not one, but TWO bass players had played with their bands in between my sets and just assumed my rig was the house rig and didn't even bother to ask if they could use it. So by the time I got back up to play, the speaker was totally blown. I almost died. But fortunately the guys at EA are so wonderful, they're sending me a replacement speaker for $90 and the club is paying for it.
Probably the last gig I'll bring it on, but I CANNOT wait to use this thing on some sessions!!! EA has really impressed me more than any other bass gear company today. They truly are bass innovators and they just keep impressing me with their stuff. It's a shame they chose to discontinue the rumble seat, but if you can find one I HIGHLY recommend grabbing it.
