I'm just glad EA has 'finally' worked out how to make TL bass cabinets that don't weigh more than a small horse; when I bought my Acmes the EA alternative was the VL208 (not fat enough) or the VL210 (fat but in all ways!) and the 3-way designs were significantly more expensive than the current 2-way designs.

However, just quickly, how do the new EA cabs get on with distortion and effects? I've found my Acmes are very effect friendly due to the accurate yet smooth high mids and top-end, and am concerned that it's unlikely that a design with compression tweeters can be quite so smooth. Of course, I could be wrong...

Still a chance I could become an iAmp 800 owner one of these days, but I'm disappointed that the tuner is no more and another superfluous effects loop has replaced it.

You could just get two Wizzy's and not have to worry about tweeters at all!

Just got my EA iAMP350 yesterday. Plugged it in today and wow is the sound great. Now I see why everyone said they ran the amp's EQ flat most of the time :) Sounds great on its own. Has tons more oomph than my B2R had.

If you like EA or not may have also to do with the bass.

When I buy a bass (every 10 years or so) I usually play it without amp first.
If the un-amplified sound does not blow me away I go to the next one.

Last time I bought a bass guitar I ended up with an Ibanez - very nice acoustic sound, PU and electronics O.K.

Later I replaced the PU and the electronics and now I have bartolini in it.

So, what I want is an amp that gives me the same acoustic sound, just louder. And EA does just that. But I picked the bass based on its acoustic sound.

Someone else may have been checking basses by playing through an Ampeg, and when he/she decided on a bass, the bass was chosen that sounded best through that particular amplifier. If that's what the person wanted, no surpride that person would find an Ampeg better than an EA.
